Samsung WB250 camera Wi-Fi connectivity with Galaxy S7 Edge

For some bizarre reason my older Galaxy S4 phone (now defunct) still works just fine with my WB250 camera, but my new Samsung S7 Edge just will not connect. I'm using the camera's "Remote Viewfinder" to link with the S7 Edge's "Samsung Smart Camera" app . . . to no avail. I'm not the first consumer to be confounded with this problem if the general blog out there is any indication. I've tried this with the Otterbox case removed and still no luck. Baffled!!!

Is the firmware on the camera (guide here) and phone the latest for them? And any general issues with Wi-Fi on your S7 edge?
