I've added a video to show you what it does
The search pops up and then disappears and repeats .. I can't use the search feature at all .. I've unplugged it, restarted the MacBook, tried a different MacBook (so it's the drive)

I don't want to have to reformat it but if I need to now is the time as I have a new empty MacBook

Can anyone help

Thanx

Yeh I checked the rebuild spotlight but I'm on sequoia and it hasn't fixed anything. So this based on the actual harddrive that's the issue

As stated as well I've tried it on 2 different MacBooks so it's Def an hd error

Looks like the drive might be corrupted or have a bad index. Before reformatting, try running Disk Utility > First Aid on it. If that fails, yeah, probably best to reformat since you’ve got a fresh setup anyway.
