Procedure to replace defective 980 pro 1TB drive

My 980 pro drive is defective. It works but not as expected.

I did buy the drive because it was the best performer compared to price and on par with my Corsair MP600. But now it is broken. My question is, how to let it replace for a driver what has the same performance as I had it on day one.

I did do the following:

1. At May 4 2021 i did buy this brand new drive because my old SSD crashed
2. I took out my old MX500 M.2 SSD and placed the Samsung 960 pro. 
3. I restored my System drive from backup using the device recovery from Synology Backup for Business.
4. Start to work with the system
5. I did do a benchmark and everything seems to look great
6. But 6 days later my write performance did drop until less then half
7. And now 8 days later then that the performance does not came back, so the drive must be defective and I don't trust it anymore because all my other Samsung and other make drives never had a write degradation like this

I don't know what your question is.

If the drive is defective and you bought it on the 4th May then you should still within the return period, which is usually 30 days. So return it.

The problem is, I my supplier says that it is not defective. And in that I do not agree. Because the write speeds are totally out of specs as advertised.

The shop says, write speeds are up to 5000MB/s so 1MB/s is also possible. And in my opinion this is BS. If it is - 20% it is also discutabele and 10% margin is an accessible limit, but on a full speed PCIe 4.0 interface 10% is even to much.

But in my opinion the SSD is defective because it comes far under the 4500 MB/s.

To put it all in perspective:

• My Samsung 830 128GB, 11 years old, no degradation in speed
• My Samsung 850 EVO, no degradation
• My Samsung 970 EVO 500GB and 1TB, no degradation in write speed,
• My Corsair MP 600 1TB, also stable in speeds.
• My Crucial MX300, BX500, MX500, no degration in write speed
• My 3 Kingston SSD's no degradation

This seems like an issue you have to deal with, with your "supplier".

So I can say to them Samsung agrees it is defective and I can get an replacement. Nice to know. I will tell them and send the SSD back to get replaced.
