I have purchased an MZ-77E170 870Evo 2.5" SSD and the serial number on the drive has an extra "L" at the end compared to the one on the box. See picture below.
My Samsung Magician doesn't recognize it as well.
Is it a fake, or what? I googled, and so far I've seen that:
- there's many complaints about Samsung Magician not recognizing drives, which are not necessarily fake
- while I haven't found pics of SN on boxes, all SNs on similar disks have a character in the end
- product registration form on Samsung site has space for all characters in the SN as specified on the disk

I would delete the images, as SN are unique to the product. I imagine theres not much someone could do with it but still.
*the most realistic reason for this is to prevent the registration of a product that hasn't been opened and is still sealed in its box- meaning when you register the device youre giving the entire SN. But im not going to state that as a fact

@JohnSmith86: Please note that I have removed the image from your post for data protection purposes, as it contained the serial number, which is a key identifier of the SSD.
Samsung has recently started to omit sections of the serial numbers from our Home Appliances range for security purposes, so it is possible that the same process is being put in place for other devices ranges. What I'd suggest is reaching out to Hanaro at samsungmemory@hanaro.eu or 00800-8010-8011, as they provide support for all Samsung memory products, and are therefore best placed to check the validity of the serial number for you.
