so if we do understand properly, you seem to have no WiFi connection whatsoever, although its toggle is active and a network is nearby? Does this happen with other WiFi networks as well?
But more important, what about the need of updates you talked of? Is that a pop-up advice on screen? Could you please share a screenshot about it?

no WiFi area is a generic advice which could stand for no network at all.
Anyway, if a network nearby is active indeed and it is not recognized, try this procedure for a reset of mobile's network parameters:
- Settings
- General management
- Reset
- Reset network settings > Reset Settings
