Airpods not connecting to my phone

I pressed pair on my airpods and when i scan on my phone to connect the airpods its says avaliable devices:airpods but when i press connect it says couldnt connect. How do i fix this?

You're better off getting an iPhone with your pods.

some people can afford £200 ear buds but not 1.2k phones, maybe its not an option for them.

I have tried previously using a family members airpod to my device (s22) and it didn't work, I then tried to connect them to my s10 and it worked but was absolutely terrible.

Reset the airpods by holding in the button for long time until blinking

Is it possible that they're already connected to another device? Not just paired, but actively broadcasting sound.
