background: S21 phone, I use talk back exclusively, as I am legally blind.  I used to be able to easily increase or decrease the talk back speech rate using a one finger up or down gesture, but that option has disappeared.  now it shows other options depending on context.

I like to do this because while I like very fast talk back for most things, especially since I almost always know what it's going to say next, but sometimes I like to slow it down a little while reading  long form text, and slow it down a lot when it is reading back confirmation numbers, etc.

this used to work great for me, but now I find it changes randomly, either way too slow or way too fast.

adjusting the speed in the settings panel is nearly impossible for me - the adjustments don't work when talk back is on, and they're too sensitive when it's off, and I don't want to have to go to settings to change it every time.

how do I get my speech rate up/down gestures back?

@moflicky: I'm sorry to hear that you're having some issues with the TalkBack feature on your Galaxy S21. To troubleshoot the situation, please follow the steps below to ensure that the gestures are set up correctly.

Settings > Accessibility > TalkBack > Settings > Customise gestures > 1 finger > Swipe up > Move navigation focus backwards or adjust reading control up.

Tap the Back button > Swipe down > Move navigation focus forwards or adjust reading control down.

While you're here, tap on 'Practise gestures' to ensure that it is set up the way you like it. I also recommend enabling the 'Talkback shortcut' in Settings > Accessibility > TalkBack, for ease of access to the settings.

Let me know if this helps.

yey! that worked.  the verbiage on that setting was not very clear - also, when going to the gesture settings, it automatically positioned to the currently selected action, and I didn't know there were options above that.

thanks for your help - but why would it suddenly change behavior?  it is really frustrating when, as a blind person, you depend on a feature or behavior and it suddenly changes without notice or option.  Is there somewhere I can subscribe to notifications when these type of setting change due to a software update?

thanks again for your help.
