Washing your hands well and regularly is a crucial way to prevent the spread of germs, but many harmful substances can live on the surfaces of devices for hours or even days. This is especially problematic when we consider the amount of times we touch or lift a phone to our faces, or even pass it to others to take photos or calls.
According to a study done by research company Dscout in 2016, we touch our phones about 2,600 times a day. Tapping, swiping, moving and lifting are all examples of physical contact with your device – and contact with whatever germs are living on its surfaces. Keeping it clean should be part of your general maintenance routine all year round.
