Watch 4 google maps dark mode

Hi

For a few weeks now google maps on my watch 4 has been stuck in some sort of dark mode. The background is black and there's no colour. I can't find any relevant settings. How can I fix this.

Oh. Oh dear. ALWAYS in dark mode is normal? How bizarre. That makes it really rather crapp. Why would they do that? What a shame.
