If you’re using a device One UI 6.1 or above, there’s a fantastic feature waiting for you in Photo Editor – Generative edit!
This handy AI tool gives you way more freedom when editing – you’re no longer limited to what’s already in the photo. It uses Generative AI to help you reimagine and reconstruct your images in a whole new way.
✅ You’ll need a network connection and be signed in to your Samsung account to use Generative edit.
🖼️ Edits are saved at up to 12MP and will include an AI watermark.
☁️ Images are processed on a server but not stored by Samsung.
🎨 Results can vary – AI does its best, but it’s still learning!
📱 Supported on devices running One UI 6.1 and above.
💡 Generative edit is free until the end of 2025. Features from third parties may differ.
Open Photo Editor, and look for the Generative edit button on the left-hand side.
Note: The Ratio button (previously at the top) is now in the centre of the screen.

Ever straightened a photo and lost parts of the edges? Before, that was unavoidable. Now, Generative edit fills in those missing bits automatically, keeping your full photo intact!

With Generative edit, you can now select a subject in your photo and move it, shrink it, or remove it entirely – it’s super easy.
There are two ways to select a subject:
🖼️ Picture 4: (Left) Tap to select | (Right) Draw to select
Once selected, tap and hold to separate the object from the background. You’ll then see two icons:

Use these to shift your subject or remove it altogether. Check out the example below:

When you’re selecting a subject to move or erase, try to include any shadows too. AI will use those shadows as clues for what to fill the space with. If you leave the shadow behind, it might try to create a new object there based on what it “thinks” should be in the scene!

Generative edit gives you way more freedom when editing your shots – whether it’s straightening up without cropping or rethinking the whole layout. Have a play around and see what you can create!
