When it comes to your home entertainment setup, a Soundbar can really make all the difference. It places you right in the heart of the action when you’re watching a film or a series, providing amazing 3D sound experiences. And Samsung has some great Soundbars to complete your viewing experience.

One thing that might be standing between you and mind-blowing audio is the thought of connecting the Soundbar to your TV. With all the different connection options on offer, it can be a bit daunting. But that’s where this Samsung Hack comes in! Read on to find out how to connect your Soundbar to your TV via HDMI, optical cable, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi.

HDMI

Connecting your Soundbar using an HDMI cable will give you the best audio quality.

  1. Connect the cable to the HDMI (ARC) output of your TV
  2. Put the other end in the HDMI (ARC) input on your Soundbar
  3. Switch on the Soundbar and the TV
  4. Use the Source button on your Soundbar to select HDMI
  5. On your TV, go to:
    1. Menu
    2. Settings
    3. All settings
    4. Sound
    5. Sound output

For an HDMI connection, you have two options:

  • TV + Soundbar: this will play the sound on both devices
  • Soundbar (HDMI): this will play the sound on just the Soundbar

Optical cable

Using an optical cable will give you reliable and consistent sound quality.

  1. Connect an optical cable to the output on your TV
  2. Connect the other end of the cable to the optical input on your Soundbar
  3. Turn on your Soundbar and your TV
  4. Use the source button on your Soundbar to set D.IN
  5. On your TV go to
    1. Menu
    2. Settings
    3. All settings
    4. Sound
    5. Sound output
    6. Select Receiver (Optical)

Bluetooth

With Bluetooth, you’ll get great audio quality with a wireless connection.

  1. Our your Soundbar, use the source button to select BT
  2. When there’s a connection, you’ll see “BT ready” on the display
  3. Press and hold the MIC button until “BT PAIRING” appears
  4. When it’s in pairing mode, the front light indicator will light up
  5. On your TV go to
    1. Menu
    2. Settings
    3. All settings
    4. Sound
    5. Sound output
    6. Bluetooth Speaker List
    7. Choose your Soundbar from the list of Bluetooth devices
    8. Select Pair and Connect

Wi-Fi

If you connect your Soundbar using a Wi-Fi connection, you’ll have a wider range than with Bluetooth. You’ll also be able to use multiple connections to your TV.

To be able to connect using Wi-Fi, you need to download the SmartThings app on your smartphone.

  1. Select WIFI on your Soundbar by pressing the source button
  2. Connect your smartphone to the same Wi-Fi as your TV*

*If your wireless router uses a DFS channel, you won’t be able to set up a Wi-Fi connection between your TV and the Soundbar. Contact your Internet service provider for details

  1. Open the SmartThings app on your phone

If you see a popup, tap “Add now” to connect

If a popup doesn’t, er, pop up:

  1. Tap “Add”
  2. Select “Device”, then “AV”
  3. Choose the brand of your Soundbar from the list, then tap “Soundbar”
  4. Tap “Start”, then select a Location and a Room
  5. Press the volume down button on your Soundbar
  6. Choose a name for your device

On your TV, head to

  1. Menu
  2. Settings
  3. All settings
  4. Sound
  5. Sound output

Here you have two options:

  • TV + Soundbar will give you sound from both devices
  • Soundbar (Wi-Fi) will give you sound from just the Soundbar

Once your Soundbar is connected, either via HDMI, optical cable, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi, you can change the sound output via Quick Settings.
