Is it really not possible to use the S Pen to move the cursor in text fields without it inserting unwanted characters?

I put a good bit of work into turning off any pen to text and handwriting. I found FOUR instances including dev mode. But still this thing is useless half the time. I swear I should have done my research before throwing down all that money on Samsung devices.

Is there a super-secret fifth, sixth, or seventh unnecessary, redundant hidden setting I have to keep looking for?

To address the issue of unwanted text input and cursor movement with your S Pen, consider these potential solutions:

Disable "S Pen to text": Navigate to Settings > Advanced features > S Pen > S Pen to text and turn this feature off.

Check for magnetic interference: Remove any third-party magnetic cases or covers, as magnets can interfere with S Pen functionality, causing erratic behavior or unintended input.

Adjust or replace S Pen tip: If the tip is pushed in too far, damaged, or worn, it can affect pressure sensing and cause unwanted input. Try reinserting the tip or replacing it if necessary.

Check screen protector: Ensure your screen protector is clean, in good condition, and not interfering with S Pen sensitivity, as some protectors can cause inconsistent input.

Disable Stylus Handwriting in Developer Options (if applicable): Some users report finding an option called "Stylus Handwriting" under Input Method in Developer Options which, when disabled, resolved similar issues.

Reset S Pen: If other steps fail, consider resetting the S Pen. Go to Settings > Advanced features > S Pen > Air actions > More options (three vertical dots) > Reset S Pen.

Software Update: Ensure your tablet's software and S Pen firmware are up to date, as updates often include bug fixes and performance improvements.

If the problem persists after trying these steps, consider contacting Samsung Support for further assistance, as it might indicate a hardware issue.

I'm not sure if you have the pro or just the regular, as I do, and I'm not sure if there's specific apps or fields it's not working in, but I just switched off S pen to text as in the image, and I'm writing this with my pen on my keypad. 1755410463422.jpg

First- a sincere thank you for the effort trying to assist! Very cool of you.

In case it helps anyone viewing in the future, I'll clarify point by point.

"S Pen to text" disabled as per above screenshots (in the location you mentioned plus three other similar instances).

No magnetic devices or attachments involved besides the tablet and pen.

Tip is fine, tested with one barely used pen and a new/never used pen.

No screen protector.

Stylus Handwriting in Developer Options disabled, as per above screenshots.

S Pen reset with no change

All factory and third party software up to date.

With all of the above being said, it doesn't seem plausible that the outcome could possibly be on the hardware side. The physical screen is recognizing the physical movements of the physical pen accurately. The element responsible for telling the physical processor not to register the movements of the pen in the specific instances at issue is the software. The hardware should not be able to override correctly coded instructions not to convert the movements within text input fields to handwriting (indeed, the hardware is not what does the conversion in the first place, only the recognition of the movements).

The only two logical options I see are:

Considering there are multiple, reduntant, difficult to find places where the user must instruct the OS not to convert pen movements to text, perhaps there is yet another, even-harder-to-find instance we do not yet know about. (This was my motivation for posting).

OR

Samsung was simply sloppy with their design and testing and there is no way to turn this off fully, despite being offered multiple ways of supposedly doing so. (Which, based on my experience with their software in general, seems FAR more likely, but that is out of my hands.)

I'm glad it's working for you. That's my dream, also. :smiling-face:
