External DVD player w/ USB to watch films on A8

Hi, am trying to figure how to watch my DVDs on my A8 tab. I have an external DVD player with USB connection that I used to use on my ancient Macbook Pro to add CDs to my itunes library and watch DVDs. I see there are adaptors but I'm not sure which one to buy or even if it'll work. My local tech repair shop said I'd probably have to download an app onto my tab for software to run my DVD player to watch films. They seemed a bit taken aback by my inquiry actually!

There is information on this online saying it's possible but any further knowhow or advice from anyone out there would be much appreciated. Thanks.

With my s10 I was able to watch films on my external hard drive. This was only possible over WiFi. Making sure that my phone and drive were working on the same WiFi, I was able to see the drive and access it.

Thanks but it's not an external hardrive I have but a DVD player.

No, this won't work as Android cannot read the udf file system on a DVD.

Is that because allowing a Tablet to access udf/DVD files - it would become competition for the Book4?
