Heyo, been doing a little testing and I have a little feedback.
So, in one ui 7 and 8 (maybe 6 too) there's an option to block usb devices when the phone is locked. Idea being someone can't try and get into the device without unlocking it.
The issue, it doesn't block enough.
Connecting a usb audio device doesn't get blocked. I understand from a consumer perspective people might get mad they need to unlock their phone to connect usb earbuds, but it's leaving a hole in the block. They can just turn the feature off if they want. I know it used to block all usb devices in one ui 6.1, then I believe it got swapped to block after 30 minutes of being locked due to people complaining. They enable the block, got mad things were blocked...
Right now, the block happens instantly but seems to always allow audio.
Second, connecting the phone to a pc while locked still displays the device name, serial number and battery stats on the pc. That doesn't seem like usb is being blocked to me. Yes no files can be transfered, but that's again, a lot more info than nothing.
I'd really like this feature to actually do a good job and properly block usb connections. No data should be shared while the device is locked if this setting is enabled.
As of right now, it only really affects usb drives and other generic usb devices.
Audio still works and device info is sent to connected computers. A block is a block, when the setting is enabled and the device is locked, nothing should be going on with the usb port.
Yes everyday people might find it annoying, but it's an optional toggle feature. Even if an extra strong usb mode has to be added to the maximum restrictions part of auto blocker, I'd just like a solid block to work. I pick samsung because of the security, kinda sad to see updates downgrade certain obscure security features
