Hello!
I pre-ordered the new Galaxy S24 Ultra, and I got the phone yesterday. When I turned the screen on for the first time, I could feel that something was wrong with the screen and the colors. The colors are very dull and washed out compared to my S22 Ultra, which comes with amazing screen colors. I tried to make some changes in the display settings, and I was shocked by the results. I could make both phones display exactly the same colors when I changed the display from vivid to natural on my S22 Ultra, although the S24 Ultra is set to a vivid screen!!! I don't understand how bad the colors on the S24 Ultra screen are. Some people might say it's better to be natural and less vivid... yes, I totally agree, but with the S22 Ultra, Samsung made the vivid option amazing, so it doesn't look too saturated... it was just very, very well-balanced. So, I hope Samsung will solve this problem with a software update as soon as possible. For you who got the S24 ultra and tried it, did you feel the same?

  • Same here, any news on a solution? Or do we have to resend and ask for refund?

This turns out to be a common problem. The phone, other than the screen color problem, is legendary in all aspects, so let's wait for the next software update and then judge. I am confident that the problem can be solved with a simple software update.

Did some research yesterday. I belive the problem is the PWM (Pulse Width Modulation). Samsung has changed display and now uses a new LTPO screen. I had a oneplus before and has experienced similar issues before. The difference is that Oneplus got it right with their implementation of PWM dimmin by using some clever algoritm for DC dimming. I wish Samsung fixes this but there are known issues with this type of screen... 😒

I think the problem might be linked to the new Corning Gorilla Armor glass, which now boasts 4x more anti-reflection properties. Many mobile phone companies come with higher PWM than samsung's and apple's phones, yet still maintain vivid and good colors, so I'm unsure. Let's wait for the next software update and see.

No, they aren't the first actually. The S21 Ultra was the first phone from Samsung that comes with an LTPO screen.

Are you sure? Since some where I read that s24 is first series with LTPO but I think s21 had different LTPO while s24 has newer type of LTPO which is why they claim it as first, since s21 had older LTPO and not same type as s24.

I'm not sure if they have used different type of LTPO panels with the s24 series, but I'm sure that the first phone that comes with the LTPO display from Samsung was the s21 ultra.
