Does anyone know why security patches are released at the end of the month.

Every time I get a security update, it is usually towards the end of the month (at least 20 days in), so for the November security patch I installed it on the 30th November (I think it actually came out on the 29th).

However, according to the actual update, the security patch level is 1st November.

My question is in 3 parts. A) is this the global android security patch that Google release for everyone, b) if yes, does this mean for almost an entire month there is vulnerabilities in my phone, and because the update is for all android the patches have been released publicly,

And c) does anyone know why it takes them so long to release the update. Surely they would work with Google to get us the update asap, not a month later.

Hi @busby08,

A) The “security patch level” shown in Settings refers to Google’s monthly Android security bulletin (e.g., 1 Nov 2025). Samsung integrates this baseline patch into its own One UI build, adds Samsung-specific security fixes, and then performs device-level testing and carrier certification.

B) This does not mean your phone is exposed for the whole month. Manufacturers receive patch details ahead of public release, and layers like Samsung Knox protect the device while the update is being prepared.

C) The additional 2–3 weeks are spent on integration, quality-assurance testing, and carrier approvals, which ensures the update is stable for each device variant. Keeping automatic updates enabled will install the patch as soon as Samsung’s certified build is ready 😊.
