Galaxy S7 Edge Screen Resolution Troubles

Greetings!  Yesterday I restarted my Galaxy S7 Edge.  On restart all of my apps were displayed as very size.  In addition, every action I took was spoken back to me by my phone.  It appears that the accessibility option was switched on somehow.  I have since turned this off, but this does not reduce the screen resolution size.

I have tried to adjust the screen resolution via Settings => Display => Screen Resolution and when I press 'Apply',  there is an error response 'Settings has stopped'.

Any thoughts on a fix?

Hi Wesley and welcome to the Samsung Community!

That sounds like a second accessibility setting being enabled as well. That's odd as they shouldn't turn on by itself! Do you happen to have installed a new device manager recently?

You can check the settings under Settings --> Accessibility --> Vision. I think for this case, the settings Zoom screen and Magnification are the most important settings to check. Can you see if any of those are enabled and if you're able to set them back to default?

Also, since you've reached the Dutch community, should you happen to speak Dutch; please do :smileyvery-happy:

Please let us know how this goes.

Hi Kevin, purchased the phone when I was living in NL.  Though I am not Dutch...

Per your advice, under 'Vision', 'Screen zoom and font' are set to 'Small, Small, Default'.

'Magnifier Window' is switched off.  Informatively, all of the switches in this menu are 'Off'.

I am happy to supply screen shots if required.

Hi Wesley,

In that case, I am going to ask you to clear your system's cache. Make sure you follow these instructions precisely so no personal data will be removed from the phone.

Switch off your phone. When turning your device on again, hold down the volume up key and the home button simultaneously. If all goes well, you should see some spooky screens. Don't worry, it is designed like this because you are booting into a recovery menu. Let it do its thing, within a minute you should be entering the menu. You can navigate using the volume keys and select an option using the power button.

In this menu, choose Wipe cache partition. So not wipe data/factory reset (!)

When it's done, you can choose Reboot system now.

Also, did you install a device manager such as an antivirus or another app which asked for these permissions? Those may have overruled the system's settings and you might have to remove them as device manager.

If this doesn't work and doesn't let you change the resolution as well, I'd like to see those screenshots.

Hi Kevin,

I was successfully able to follow your instructions, sadly this did not make a difference.

I have not installed any apps recently, which you have described below.

I have attached the screen shots below and hope that this will assist.

1.  Home Screen - the resolution means that some apps are inaccessible off the screen.

2.  Shows how the apps are placed on the screen.

3.  Vision Accessibility - Off

Trying to change the resoltion simply causes the same error.Screenshot_20170522-125316.pngScreenshot_20170522-125319.pngScreenshot_20170522-125322.png

I've seen a lot, but this has to be one of the weirdest bug encouters yet... I'm afraid I don't know what else could be causing this. I'll have to recommend you to make a back-up and reset the phone to it's factory settings. Any issue should then be solved.

First make a back-up of all your personal data. You can do this through Samsung Cloud on the phone's settings, or you can use Samsung Smart Switch on a PC. You can then proceed with the reset through Settings --> General settings --> Reset.

After you've completely reset the phone, is the screen resolution back to normal?

Hi @Anonymous User,

please let us know if the back-up/reset worked for you, when it's up and running again, you can accept the answer from Kevin as solution.

I found a fix that doesn't require resetting your phone.  Go to your SETTINGS app in apps > go to DEVICE MAINTENANCE  > Hit PERFORMANCE MODE button > Change to GAME MODE > Change back to Optimized.  Your phone should be back to normal now.
