Hi,

the smart lock - trusted location option is not working as it should do.

i've set up my home address as a trusted location, however, my S8 device is unlocked everywhere.

just realised this while i was in the office, that i can access my device withouth using the PIN or the fingerprint.

i've oppend the maps and the location that it shows up is correct. 2miles away from my home address.

the only workaround that i found was to turn off the trusted location, and now the device is asking for the PIN.

this is a serious security issue. the trusted location option is not that trusted :smiling-face:

any idea?

thanks,

sabina

Are you using a smartwatch? Trusted login works with: location, available network, smart watches, other devices.
It might be that you have an other device on you with the same samsung account, therefor the phone will think you are always nearby a trusted location/device/network.

thanks for your reply TalihK

have no other devices that are connected with my samsung account.

and my S8 is using the mobile data not the wifi network that i have in my office, so it's not the network either.

the only option that i choosed for the smart lock is the location. nothing else.

thanks,

sabina

Then it might be a bug in the software. Delete samsung account and re-add. Go to: Settings> General management> Reset settings. (This wil reset the main settings).

Other option is to wipe cache partition see website: https://www.pntbrother.com/galaxy-s8-hard-reset/
***Be carefull with wiping cache partion, 1 wrong click and you hard-reset your phone.

I also have an issue with trusted places as it keeps turning off at my home address. After the last software update it stopped working. Before I reset anything, is there a bug in the software? If so this needs to be fixed ASAP by Samsung. Reading through other forums this does not seem to be an isolated case.

Me too. The only fix I have found is to delete "home" altogether. Then, if you are at home, go to "Add Trusted Location" and use the GPS location. The annoying part about this is that when you delete "home" it deletes "home" across all Google applications. Definitely a bug.

It also seems that the Google Maps light blue circle or the dotted line which is shown when one defines the trusted location has nothing to do with the actual "what is considered as a trusted area" concept. This morning my phone refused to understand that it was home again and I did test adding 10 close by spots (moving the found pin and picking points outside around the house) around my house an suddenly phone started understand that it, indeed is in a trusted environment. ; )

I am having the same problem.  About a month ago the trusted places option stopped working at home.  Very annoying to have to unlock it everytime to check messages or to text.

Hi,

I had the same issue and resolved it by wiping the cache partition!

Same issue.
Fixed the issue by deleting the samsung account for a new login, but I think it's not normal ...

I have the same issue with my s8. Very annoying and I've cleared cache and did everything necessary then it started working then after 3 hours again same thing. They don't really care about us 😞

I went into settings>device maintenance>battery>battery usage, press three dots in top right, optimize battery usage, choose all apps, then went down to location services and unselected it, seems to be working now, I know after update when screen went off GPS would go off and location would drift so took it off of the battery optimization so hopefully it runs while screen off, not sure but seems to have been working since I did that yesterday, to verify that's on my s8

Check where Google Maps locates you when Smart lock isn't working. In my case it sometimes locates me just outside the range to the opposite building. Adding these a-bit-off locations nearby helped me. It's a pity that one can't define the range what is considered safe distance.

Unfortunately mine seems to randomly drift, once it said I was about 5 miles SW in a lake, trying to set up a location based IFTTT last night it had me about 2 miles NW

Just a thought. If you are not using GPS to locate your position then your location is being triangulated by cell phone towers which are not accurate at all.  Check to see if your Settubgs-Connections-High accuracy is turned on or not.

Well, in that case there is not much to be done, of course this drifting may depend on where your mobile phone picks the signal that it uses to calculate your location. In my case these spots near by were quite regular. In your case placing your location far away tells that there are only limited amount of available signal towers and probably too many users online at the same time, pushing you to the next available signal tower further away. If you have better GPS signal, using that might help. You can also check are these random spots far away regular and add all of them. In my case activating wifi drifted my location accurately back to home, since I have allowed Google to use wifi for locating my phone. Without wifi, I was located to the opposite building regularily.

Have it set to high accuracy, I know I basically have no cell tower near me, think the closest is about 5 miles, but the location and smart lock worked perfectly until an update a little while back, did a factory reset last night so crossing my fingers

I am pretty sure that just deleting only Google Maps Cache should solve the problem, since that is the service that tells your phone is. I assume you do not have a land line and wifi on that available. That would lock your location tightly.
