I have a basic GT-E1200 mobile phone which has now become erratic in operation. It may be just faulty. When I now switch on, it appears to function normally for a few seconds, then if I try to make a call, it tells me the keyboard is locked. I have it set to unlocked. Then if I press to unlock it, I get a message "emergency calls only". Also if I click contacts, I get a message "loading" and then it switches itself off. When I switch on again and click menu/messages, I get the same result. Anyone any ideas to rectify please?

Then a Samsung Experience Store or Samsung Service Centre would be your next logical step @brbrown

It could be a number of issues either with the phone's hardware , software or the sim card @brbrown
As a process of elimination try your sim card in another phone and then see what happens.
Ensure it's software is up to date.
I'm not familiar with your model of phone but please look in the settings for anything to do with resetting the Network Connection and if deemed necessary back up and factory reset.
A Samsung Experience Store or Samsung Service Centre can take a look.

Many thanks for your reply. I haven't had chance to try what you suggest yet but I will get to it shortly and let you know. One question though, how can I check its software is up to date?

Usually via Settings, Software Update, Download and Install.
To add if a phone is due a software update then Samsung send it out automatically which then the phone tells the owner via a pop up message.
Phone's are supported for so long with software updates however.

Updating will not affect the sim card content and settings will it?

Software appears to be up to date and factory reset complete but has made no difference. I guess then there is a fault which i will be unable to rectify, so I will try and find a Samsung service centre. Short of any other ideas, thanks for you help anyway.
