Other SmartphonesHow can I get back to the previous software before the recent update? I have read mixed views on this; if I wipe my phone and reset some are saying it will automatically download the new software - some are saying it will revert to the original onboard software. Anybody know which is correct?

Other SmartphonesA factory reset takes the phone back to it's last firmware update.
Not a previous old one.
To revert to an older firmware then I think you would need to add a custom Rom to replace the current firmware.
Before doing this please learn all you can.
Xdadevelopers is a good place to start learning.
Is there a problem with the firmware your on may I ask ?

Other SmartphonesThanks for the advice. Since the update, notifications don't work as well as the previous version. I have worked out how to turn on badges but the badge disappears when the app is opened - even if I have not opened each individual new message. I tend to look at the important messages while leaving others until later. I gather there is a new system called dots but i don't seem to have this option available at all. It doesn't appear in any menus. I find this very irritating. The old system was simple and worked well and I can't understand why it was changed. Thanks again for your input.

Other SmartphonesYou are very welcome for my reply @blinky
Yes with the Oreo Update there are two options to indicate you have pending notification.
Either the counter or the dot.
I prefer to use the dot.
I chose this by going into Settings- Notifications - Toggle at the top says 'App Icon Badges' Turn that On and then tap on it to bring up another screen which looks like this and choose 'Show without number'
Some further possible help in > how-to-fix-notification-badge-icon-problem-on-samsung-galaxy-devices.
"settings--> apps --> 3 dots in upper right corner -> special access -> notification access -> samsung experience home-> switch on. "

Other SmartphonesHello @BandOfBrothers,
With the recent Samsung software update that included One UI version 4.1, my phone's "recent app list" got messed up. Now instead of showing the recent apps, its now showing what Samsung calls the "recommneded app list", which is just plain outright outrageous. (Recent App that shows 4 recently used apps icons at the bottom when you press the default multitasking "left" button on samsung phones) Who in the right frame of mind approved such horrible feature to millions of their customers worldwide?
Enough of rant, from your above solutions it seems that you know your stuff. I want to know if there is a way to either get the recent app list like before, or a way to roll back the update to the previous version somehow.
Thanks in advance.

Other SmartphonesHi @skinnyus
You can send feedback to Samsung via your Samsung Members App under the GetHelp section so the relevant department can be updated so they can assess this.
You can't roll back the software once it's been downloaded and accepted onto the phone. A disclaimer now comes with the update to advise so.
However you could check out the information in xdadevelopers.com about firmware changes.
Disclaimer 》
Using a Custom Rom / trying to use other methods to rollback firmware can bring about an unstable phone or it may not work properly if the process glitches or the wrong Rom is used. It may stop Samsung Pay from working if the procedure trips your Knox Counter.A person takes full responsibility if they perform this process and do so at their own informed decision. Again the process may trip Knox and may affect the Samsung Warranty. Samsung could levy a charge to put this right or deny support.
