Guys I've been getting an overheating issue when using video calling on the S21. It crashes all Windows and cannot open anything until it cools a bit. Is anyone else having the same issues or have a fix?

interestingly enough, I had my wife inquire with samsung about her model (all 3 are the same but 1 is direct from Samsung, one from EE and another for my daughter, the Mrs bought it that one outright from CPWH.

samsung suggested first to do a repair service for all 3, then proceeded to say they should be replaced entirely through their respective retailers, when I mention mine was directly from Samsungs own website, I was told she thought it best to just send it back with a case ref from her for a refund so I could purchase a replacement faster than with testing first as I'm within consumer rights period still.

none of what was said by her made sense except the mention of yet another patch to come in March (planned no date) and I can see slight improvement on one device having been updated to 3.1 I battery but not heat, heats anywhere from 5 to 30 mins with silly low settings, everything optimised, 10-30% brightness max and the lowest resolution.

only networking feature or bypass sleep mode are WiFi and a specific work app that's optimised for And-11

i have spoken to a friend working for a ee csll centre too, apparently there's a fair few being sent in for testing or replacement but that the reports come back "normal"

I did call them about this a second time about the outright purchased one and my wife's both on a second call just in case, reply there was to wait 6 more days for a patch and see if it worked or they would do the pick up/ drop off with a replacement.

I was disgusted when told I might get a refurbished device

refurbished device from Samsung???? if so, that is appalling!!! why though?

I have heard from few members on here that once tested with samsung or EE, it comes back as 'normal'.

May I ask, how did you set up your phones initially ? and what does your battery usage show device care? here's mine. it gives you an idea. however, it does show any signs of tethering

on 2 devices I used smart switch on one and a Google restore on the other. My own one I did a clean install and manually added everything essential only after the smart switch the first time. it didn't change anything at all and I went through every technical tip in the book from cache clearing to clean install and then proceeding to enable and disable every know option to optimise battery endurance except for leaving the display at FHD+ I refuse to run my screen on lowest setting when everything else is turned on, whilst I wait for an update or go replace it I'd at least like to feel a small part of what 1300 pounds got me.

I'm still on the calculating stage after latest clean install, but let me put it this way, 6hrs SOT with all low settings and on WiFi (all other wireless or location services disabled) has used 177% battery.

I've watched no videos, played no games or otherwise demanding use. today was a light mode test day and according to every test I've seen with that amount of battery used I should have had close to 20hrs SoT as a bare minimum with a new battery.

5 different battery monitoring apps all state the count on my battery has lost 9 to 11% (its around 4396mah)

I'm just baffled.

lastly, there are no battery draining culprits, Google services which is usually a major one has used 2% in 24 hours

just to be sure, can you confirm you've tried all of the following?

1. Turn off - Bluetooth & WiFi scanning

2. NFC/ Bluetooth/ Turn down or off

3. vibration intensity

4. sign out of Microsoft outlook if your not using it

5. Turn on dark mode

6. Turn on adaptive battery

7. Turn on put unused apps to sleep

8. Turn on WI-FI power saving mode

9. Turn off data roaming

10. screen time out 15-30 seconds

11. I don't have my security activated in battery & device care.

I turn on things when I need them.

some of these might sound like 'why should I have to'. their just to preserve battery n its an option.

that's my problem though, I see the same issue across all 3 new devices from completely separate retailers alongside 8 friends and family members 😞 I really do hope it's it's software fault or bad batch and not a design flaw in the new chip.

just to add, my GB5 score is 400 below the standard S21 Ultra tests. clean install and brand new. same shows om the other 2 within around 10 points

Good day to all of you, i own a s21 snapdragon 888 set & it get warm easily as well. After tons of searching i realize this is a common issue & i think that i might have found out the culprit itself. My opinion is that the thing that really heat my s21 up is  THE ADAPTIVE MOTION SMOOTHNESS, Samsung own solution to adapt its 120hz base on our usage. I have been trying switching the adaptive motion smoothness to standard & my temperature can goes down to 30 Celsius when its idling or less, sometime even 28 to 29 Celsius whereas normally if i use ADAPTIVE the temperature normally idle at 34-36 Celsius. I would like to suggest you guys to maybe try this & maybe lets see is that the culprit behind all this ridiculous overheating issues with Samsung S21. This overall is a superb phone apart form the fact that it overheat easily which lead to battery drain excessively. Let's try it out guys & let's find out could this be the culprit.
