Fingerprint not working and soft screen

S21+ 5G with Android 12

I see other people are encountering the through screen fingerprint scanner is not working. 

Not sure when mine started to play up but it no longer works.

Gone back to unlocking phone with pattern, and bank accounts with passwords.

Does anyone know if this is a software issue or if it can be fixed please?

I also have an issue that the screen is easily scratched, even with a screen protector.

Does anyone know if scratches can be removed please?
