Hello. I have a Galaxy S20 FE 5g that I have never added a security lock on. After the recent update, my phone decided to install a PIN lock. Unfortunately, I've been locked out of my phone for almost a week now. Samsung support couldn't fix the issue and the UBreakIFix, also Batteries Plus locations they sent me to, told me that they just do a factory reset (no attempted effort). It's frustrating that Samsung caused the issue, but won't remove the update patch or PIN. I have photos/videos and contacts that I can't afford to lose. Has anyone figured out how to remove the PIN WITHOUT A FACTORY RESET AND LOSS OF DATA???  Find my mobile doesn't give the "unlock" option, and no, once again, I never installed the PIN. Everything online states that using Google to unlock it will wipe the data. Thank you for your time.

Hi, and welcome to the UK community.

Never heard of an update imposing a PIN lock before. Anyway, if you haven't got a recent backup, then you'll lose everything. Photos, etc, might be recoverable via Microsoft OneDrive or Google photos if you had sync configured. Contacts may be recoverable via Google as well.

If you have the original proof of purchase you could try asking Samsung but I suspect they may just offer a factory reset. If you had your photos synced with Google you should be able to access them from another device if you log in with your Google account. There are third party apps that claim to be able to remove the screen lock but I would be extremely wary of these

To address the issue you're facing,  I'd like to ask a couple of questions

1. Since you mentioned the PIN lock was applied after an update, were there any other changes to your phone settings that you noticed around the same time? If yes, it may be helpful to check if any other security settings or backup options were altered during the update.

2. Has your device been linked to a Samsung account, and have you registered the device with Samsung’s Find My Mobile service? If yes, it could offer additional unlocking options, like remotely unlocking the phone, depending on your setup.

Now, to offer some potential solutions:

  • Samsung Find My Mobile: Even though you mentioned it doesn't show the "unlock" option, if your device is linked to your Samsung account, this feature might still provide the ability to unlock the phone remotely. Visit Samsung Find My Mobile for more information.

  • Safe Mode: In some cases, updating the phone may cause temporary security issues. Booting the device into Safe Mode could potentially bypass the lock screen. You can try restarting the phone in Safe Mode and check if the PIN lock is bypassed. You can refer to this guide for more detailed steps on entering Safe Mode and troubleshooting within it Samsung Bypass Lock Screen Guide

    • To do this, power off the device, and when turning it back on, hold the Volume Down button until the phone fully boots. Safe Mode should be indicated at the bottom-left of the screen.
