Unable to pin Gallery widget

I tried to pin the Samsung Gallery widget to my homescreen, but it won't work.

I long-press on the widget, position it where I need it, then... nothing. The widget just disappears

S23 Ultra, latest updates installed.

Have you tried soft reset by holding volume down and power buttons for 10 seconds?

Also try safe mode and see if you could add it when into safe mode.

I've not tried that, don't want to risk messing it up. I don't know how to access safe mode.

MIght uninstall an d re-install Gallery app if I can

Soft reset is just like normal restart won't harm or you won't lose any data, by holding volume down and power buttons for 10 seconds.
You can clear cache of gallery.
Or just simply restart your phone.

I uninstalled Gallery (back to the pre-installed version). 

Not fixed.

I'll try the other things over the weekend. Gallery is the only widget I can't use
