Context: As a Samsung S24 user leveraging OneDrive for galley synchronization, I appreciate the seamless syncing of photos and videos. However, the current system lacks support for folder structure synchronization and album recognition based on subfolders created in OneDrive.
Issue:
When I create subfolders on my PC within OneDrive (e.g. Vacation/Italy 2024), they do not appear correctly within the internal storage of my Samsung device.
These folders are not nested under DCIM but in stead show up as separate root-level folders.
Most importantly, these subfolders are initially recognized as albums in the Samsung Gallery app but if they are deleted on the pc this deletion does not get synced back to the internal storage of the galaxy. The folders remain in internal storage with their content.
This breaks the workflow of organizing photos on a PC and expecting that structure to reflect visually on the phone.
Proposal:
Implement full folder structure synchronization between OneDrive and Samsung device storage under de pictures folder in onedrive
Ensure that subfolders created or deleted in OneDrive are mirrored accurately in the device’s internal storage.
Automatically recognize these subfolders as albums in the Samsung Gallery app. And reflect changes with respect to deletion or changes in naming.
Offer users a choice between media-based sync and folder-based sync, depending on their organizational preferences.
Benefits:
Users can manage photo organization from their PC and see that structure reflected as albums on their Samsung device.
Reduces confusion around file locations and eliminates redundant folders.
Enhances the value of the OneDrive integration by making it more intuitive and flexible.
Positions Samsung Gallery as a more powerful alternative to Google Photos, especially for users who prefer desktop-based organization.
