Shared Samsung Calendar not syncing with my phone

For years I've just used the basic calendar app and had no problems, but life's gotten a little crazy lately and me and my girlfriend wanted to use a shared calendar to try to keep things straight. We both just use the basic app as our main calendar.

However, when I make a shared calendar - it doesn't sync everything that's already been put into my calendar app. 'Samsung Calendar' under my samsung account also doesn't sync and has no events listed in it.

I truly have no idea what I'm doing wrong and I'm hoping that I'm just being an *****. The calendar app has all its permissions turned on, I've tried the 'sync now' at the bottom, and I've tried deleting the cache/restarting and all that. Just for context, my google calendar syncs fine.

Once I uncheck 'My Calendars', all my events disappear no matter how many times I sync them.

I don't know why, but the only way I can get samsung calanders to sync with different accounts is for each user to have google calanders loaded and synced.
This has always worked for me to get myself and my partner synced

This has happened to me in the past few days and it's driving me nuts trying to work out why. All permissions and syncing appears to be turned on.
