in 2024 the samsung gallery still doesn't consider EXIF data 'media created" as one would expect.
in the app you can sort via "creation date", "modefied date" but not via "media creation date".
this too bad. Tried to move from Google Photos to onedrive, and then sync with Samsung Gallerie....
- Google takeout nowadays works pretty good, all relevant EXIF data are included in the export
- After uploading a Photo and an MP4 video from PC to onedrive into to DCIM/samsung gallery/camera folder, you see those medias in the gallery.
- But within the app one cannot sort the respective exif datum ....
- A tried workarround didn't work either (and wouldn't be a long-term solution):
take exiftool and set the File Creation-Date and File Modified-Date with the correct value of Media-Creation-Date. But the creation date is changed back to <current> as soon as you do a sycn. And modified date is only temporay ok, since this changes with each edit.
... to bad in the yr 2024, old fashion

to clarify: i'm dealing with MP4 videos. they all have the correct EXIF data...
The app setting for the sort order is called "Creation Date", for JPGs this takes the EXIF date "Media Creation Date", for MP4 it takes simply the file attribute "creation date", which is the hurting problem....

Here is zero context with GPS time.
The issue is the bad samsung app.
My mp4 Video is from 2021. this is visible as media-create-date as exif data.
But the app does not honor that.
