Dear Samsung HQ peeps, DeX has and still is for me the most useful of many Samsung features, yes maybe the Community here is not high usage, but Reddit and other forums have a very strong and passionate following.

I hope rumours of DeX being ditched for that horrible Windows Link app are untrue.
So i have listed a few benefits DeX power users will loose, aside from having to carry a laptop around.
The screenshot is an example of my setup, which bridges personal, work, media, smart control and notifications.

Additional Benefits of Samsung DeX Over a Laptop:
#1. Flexible Display Options: Use any compatible monitor, TV, or even tablet as a display.
#2. Lightweight for Travel: Only requires a phone and a small dock or cable.
#3. Single Device Data Access: Avoids transferring files between multiple devices.
#4. No Boot Time: Instant access to desktop mode without waiting for a laptop to boot.
#5. Durability: Smartphones are often more rugged than laptops for everyday use.
#6. Battery Sharing: Use the phone’s battery to power the setup in emergencies.
#7. Regular Updates: Phones often receive updates faster than laptops for enhanced features.
#8. Global Compatibility: DeX can work with universal accessories, including Bluetooth keyboards and mice.
#9. Touchscreen Compatibility: Can leverage phone or tablet touchscreens for additional input options.

Additional Benefits Over Windows Phone Link App:
#1. App Compatibility: Full access to Android apps in a desktop layout, not limited to mirrored apps.
#2. Standalone Capabilities: Does not require pairing with a PC to function fully.
#3. Extended Workflows: Multi-monitor support and app resizing for professional tasks.
#4. Security: No PC-to-phone data transmission, reducing risks of syncing errors or breaches.
#5. Gaming: Play mobile games on a bigger screen with better performance.
#6. No Dependency on Microsoft Ecosystem: Works independently without relying on Windows or Phone Link.
#7. Custom Shortcuts and Layouts: Configure desktop shortcuts and widgets for productivity.
#8. Better Notifications Management: Handle notifications natively within the desktop interface.
#9. Hotspot Integration: Use your phone as a hotspot while simultaneously running DeX.

Windows Phone Link is not, in any way, an acceptable substitute for DeX for PC. Many points in Obsydian's post remain - mainly, that the "desktop", or widescreen if you like, experience that's baked into some Android apps cannot be taken advantage of. The native Samsung mail client, Outlook, Office apps, etc are nowhere near as usable using screen mirroring using Windows Phone Link. It's truly awful. Flip the screen mirror landscape (if you even can) and you get a 500% zoom abomination of a UI. No thanks.

I rely on DeX for PC when using my business machine, since it allows proper separation of data and personal applications. DeX for PC is superb and I would struggle without it, enough to consider not installing OneUI 7. I can't be the only one??

(Although, dude, you need to lose all that ***** in your signature. WTF. I don't care what kind of fridge you have.)

What if someone's PC is not as compatible as even phones processor...having s23's processor as cpu is phenomenon...we don't want to loose this feature !

That's not a thing. That feature is specifically "installing a program on your PC, connecting your phone to your PC via a cable, having dex mode show up within your running pc". Samsung is removing it because you can just connect your phone to your monitor instead. Or use wireless casting to your PC if you really wanted to. They are only removing dex over usb to a currently active pc

I use Dex directly for work purposes

I use Dex to access my business infrastructure from various workstations where I cannot use my sensitive data.

For me, Dex is like a secure private environment that I connect to simply by running Dex on my PC.

In my work I use Devolutions products to work with them and need a full screen.

PhoneLink doesn't fully meet the needs

1. It is not possible to use programs in a horizontal window, it is not always possible to switch to full screen.

2. No audio source selection

3. you need to log in to your microsoft account

4. You need a constant internet connection

I would like to express my appreciation for Dex for PC, and I find it puzzling why some people tend to overlook or criticize its capabilities. I believe it is an outstanding tool that offers invaluable functionality. I find it difficult to understand why it might be phased out in the near future. This application provides me with the ability to separate my personal and professional activities seamlessly.

I rely on Dex for PC daily while using my company’s desktop and laptop. It not only allows me to circumvent the stringent firewall rules in place but also creates a clear distinction between my personal accounts and my business accounts.

Unfortunately, options such as Samsung Flow and Microsoft Link are not viable within my company's infrastructure. Additionally, access to the Microsoft Store is restricted due to the company firewall, further limiting my alternatives.

I strongly believe that as long as Samsung Dex remains available, then Dex for PC should continue to be supported. If there are plans to discontinue it, I would greatly appreciate guidance on alternative solutions that I might explore given my current circumstances, particularly considering that Samsung Flow and Phone Link are not accessible to me.

I would like to have a normal wide screen view of the phone on my computer, instead of the direct mirroring that the Windows Link provides. It is useless.

Hi Smiley!

I use also the S23 Ultra and was looking for a proper docking station to connect to Dex.

But i never imagine, that this old dex dock could function with S23 Ultra.

Can you really confirm, that this compatible?

Cause the DEX Problem with the One UI 7. So i will postpone the update on my phone, because DEX is indispensable....

Best regards

Moe

I can confirm that the DEX dock from quite a few years ago does still work with the S23 ultra and also now the S25 ultra.

It gives the HDMI and USB interfaces to connect to a monitor and peripherals and still remains a powerful utility.

An alternative that also works is one of the USB-C hub widely available on amazon and selling sites. An example attached below. But I have no problems in still using my old dock. The only thing that is a little pain, is that the phone doesn't fit with a case on.

Alternatively one of these. But it will need a pass through charge option and also a charger that is strong enough as a genuine samsung one... I.e. 25W or more.
