One UI 7.0: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (Personal Experience on My S22)

I just wanted to share my experience with the One UI 7.0 update on my S22, which I installed yesterday.

Things that are good:

  • Swiping through running apps feels more intuitive and responsive now. In One UI 6, swiping often felt either unresponsive or too responsive.
  • (Update May 24) The overview of running apps no longer darkens the last app you visited.

Things that are not so good:

  • The battery percentage indicator is now less readable. It was perfectly fine in One UI 6. (I've commented on this here.)
  • Applying colors to app icons doesn’t look good anymore, so I’ve turned that feature off. Now, the Settings icon (gear wheel) looks odd when your background is dark, because the icon’s background is also dark.
  • Notification cards look too large, and the text inside is harder to read now. (Update May 24) I switched off the color palette entirely, and now everything looks fine again (in dark mode).
  • Torch notification behavior is also worse now. Previously, when you turned on the torch, you could swipe open the notification and tap “Turn off.” The torch would go off, and the screen would turn off as well. Now, the notification window stays active, so you have to manually swipe it away, which is particularly annoying.
  • The fingerprint icon is now grey, and to my eyes, it just feels off. I preferred the white version. I personally don’t understand the reason for this change.
  • (Update May 24) The backgrounds for the Alarm and Calendar apps were changed, and I had to pick a new one for both. My wallpaper (the background for both the lock screen and home screen) is still the same, but I can’t find it anymore when I search for it. The one I’m using was a standard wallpaper.

I’ll update this post if I come across anything else worth mentioning.

Let me know what you think are the good and bad parts of this update.

On my ZF6 everything is perfect, no issues , got used to the clock after a week, works well with Microsoft launcher. My battery life is still roughly the same

I've noticed that I'm using less RAM than in one UI 6

I've found it very customisable, you can actually make it look like the past

It flows well and very responsive

Just think it's a really decent UI and peed of that everyone keeps putting it down, plus I bet it's the same people which moaned because they were waiting for it.
God forbid they get into a serious relationship and their partner wants to change the colour of the bedroom, after living with that same colour for more than 1yr

I'm 57yrs old and I totally embarrassing this new stuff, plus I change the colour of my room frequently

But to be really honest, even if Samsung never made changes to one UI 6, people would still be moaning and talking about going to 🍏, and that's considering 🍏 are struggling with SIRI and their IOS, plus I'm sorry to say, 🍏 uses 8Gb of Ram 🫣

It's just getting boring here with y'all moaning about something, the pictures people put up are amazing 🤩. But why not just search the chat and add your moans to a moany comment

Embrass the new 🙏

Hi Steve, I’m glad you’re enjoying the new update. But I think there’s a misunderstanding. First of all, I wasn’t waiting for an update at all. I didn't ask for it. Secondly, the things I wrote down are facts; these are changes I experienced firsthand. Nothing more, nothing less. I just wanted to share them with Samsung and the community.

Saying that, for example, the reduced readability of the battery percentage indicator is just “moaning” is like telling someone not to feel bad when their eyesight worsens — just embrace the new. That’s unfair and, frankly, a bit ridiculous.

How to change the app color? I hate the news appearance of my apps.

I have never in my life wanted an update on a phone. Lol. I am a creature of habit, so I despise these kinds of updates where I have to figure out how to get everything back to normal.

Hi Nina, thank you for your remarks. To answer your question. Go to Settings -> Wallpaper and style -> Color Palette, and if it's turned on you can either choose a wallpaper color or a basic color, and then you can apply them to app icons.

I had chosen a wallpaper color, and I've noticed they have given app icons a different color from the same palette, and I didn't like that color on my app icons. I just switched off color palette entirely. The app icons are in default mode, but notifications and other things look better now. Anyway, hope this helps!
