As far as you have a single phone number it is going to log you out on the normal when you login in secured environment and vice versa.
It is the restriction of the WhatApp not Samsung phone.
When you login into the Secure/Normal mode WhatsApp, it assumes that you have got a new phone which yo are trying to activate and when you continue to register using the secure mode it unregisters Normal mode phone and vice versa.
The basic assumption from WhatsApp is that you are not allowed to have two phones with same phone number.

Yes you can.
You are allowed 4 devices, the Secure Folder (SF) is considered a separate device.
1. In the primary WhatsApp select Link Device. It will display a QRcode.
2. Load WhatsApp in the SF. When it asks for your phone number, select the (...)Button and select link to account. It will open a barcode scanner.
The trick is to use another device to take a picture of the barcode so you can scan it in the SF WhatsApp. The QRcode changes every 30 seconds, so you need to be quick.
Once scanned, it links the 2 devices .
