Hope someone can help. 

I only use Gmail on my Samsung phone and it works pretty well. That is until I do a search for an email and I only get emails dated up to three months before, nothing older. Any ideas pls.

In Gmail settings, there is a setting called  Days of emails to sync. Probably, that has impact on how far back you can search?

Are the emails there if you search via the web site instead of the app?

I only have 30 day sync configured but still shows years of email if searching.
