Android auto with android12

Is there an update about android auto whilst using android 12??  Do we need to get a rubbish PHONE or iPhone for it to work? It's been over 6months now?? Beyond a joke

You need to ask on the Android Auto support pages. The app is riddled with issues but nothing Samsung can do as it's not their intellectual property.
