Hey google only works for legacy assistant, not gemini

Hey Google works fine if I set the legacy assistant, but doesn't respond if I set it to Gemini. In fact, when I say hey Google I get a small circular icon that pops up in the top right corner of the display for a few seconds. That's it. I've already tried all the common fixes found on the net.

I don't have a fold or flip to confirm, but I assume Samsung's visual cue on those devices differs when invoking Gemini. That small icon you described in the top right, must be the way you get feedback when invoking Gemini. Have you tried asking a command or anything after it appears?

Yeah, of course I give it a command.. any command, even just ask the time. It does nothing as if it doesn't hear me. Then the dot disappears. Again, if I switch back to the legacy assistant it works fine.
