It's conceivable that the Samsung Service Centre does not either have the machine in house, or the screen protectors in-stock.
However it does sound overkill that they think a factory reset _ wipe of the phone maybe needed.
Just incase take time and date stamped photos of the phone with one of it turned on to show it's aesthetic condition while in your possession.
And back up the phone.
You can also put the phone into a specific mode to protect the phone.
You'll see this in the reset options in Device Care called Maintenance Mode.
More here > Maintenance Mode.
If the phone is damaged in anyway then they'd need to bring the phone upto warranty standards hence any possible fee.
They'll let you know before commencing the work.
If i can be of any further help please don't hesitate to ask 😎

I always find Samsung's customer service and warranty a bit shady. When my fold 4 won't turn on few years ago and it was under warranty and also covered by accident damage insurance, Samsung still asked me to pay £250 to cover the cost. I just paid it as I know it will go no where if I refuse to pay.
