Today, my phone decided to change my unlock pattern by itself. By googling I found that some users solved this by restarting their phone. For me, no matter how many times I restarted, the pattern was not accepted. The unlock feature at https://findmymobile.samsung.com/ did not work, as it had apparently not been set up before.
I then chatted with Samsung support, that:
Samsung support did not suggest that:
Instead, I could only use a backup that was three months old as that was apparently the last backup that was made.
When I later chatted with support again to ask WHY I was never presented with this SIMPLE and VALID solution to a problem caused by their product from the start, I was met with excuses like "Because factory reset can break your phone" (No, then why is it an option in the regular settings of the phone?) and "If you used the backup feature, it wouldn't have helped as your phone would be locked again" (No, I'm using my phone with the three month old backup right now!).
I just wanted to share this, in case someone else runs into Samsung's "Pattern change bug" like I did. I've seen hundreds of people on the internet with this issue, and after my run-in with support, it just feels like they don't want you to know the solution, so their service centers can run a similar scam as Apple does: Namely overcharge you for service.
Solved! Go to Solution.
This happened to me today. I did a phone reset by long-pressing POWER BUTTON + BIXBY BUTTON + VOLUME DOWN. I called Samsung help centre before, and they were the least helpful. Thanks for this thread...very helpful.
in my case, I chose not to activate find my mobile. Just now my password suddenly stopped working out of the blue. I have not instituted a current system update or done anything new. It just happened out of the blue. So in searching the Internet for the last hour I finally come to your post which seems like the most helpful one and saves me the bother of interacting with Samsung personnel. I guess they don’t want these answers in the community forums because then they’ll come up when people are searching and thinking about purchasing a Samsung phone. Basically, if you set wake up and find your pattern no longer works, which is a distinct possibility possibly for thousands of people in the world, your phone will be a brick through no fault of your own and Samsung has not provided any way to repair that Samsung-made Glitch. obviously, a factory reset is not a solution, particularly for those of us who do not have find my mobile. for those considering Samsung make sure to set up regular back ups because this is a fairly common problem
mine did this, and put it into aircraft mode too!
resetting didn't work.
I used 'find my phone' on the pc, which didn't work untill I unlocked 'plane' mode by calling an emergency number. That opened cell & wifi signals, pc unlocked it, effin result!
