I just traded my Samsung S5 for the S9. Noticing call volume is very low and can't be increased anymore. No case interferes, nothing over ear phone. All system updates done. Is there a hidden base setting for the audio?

I will check with Samsung to. Just wondered have wide spread this is or is it just me?

Found many, many others on-line reporting the same issue.  My 2-year old S9 just started doing this about a month or two ago.  Not on all calls but on the majority of them - can't get volume high enough and the caller is very faint.  Have not noticed the issue with speakerphone or my blue tooth headset.  Only when I'm talking on the phone itself.

A lot of people reporting cleaning the speaker, so that's my next step.  But it seems suspicious that it started very suddenly.

I had the same problem on a new s9 plus after two months and after doing a few factory resets for Verizon they finally just replaced the phone. I was unable to fix it with any of methods suggested and never did find out what may cause it.

My call volume was very low and completely inaudible. This happened within 3 months since I bought the phone. After long calls with Samsung customer care, they asked me to send the phone. I got it back after 3 weeks. It seemed to work fine (with the sound profile more than 60 yrs old), again with in a month, it stopped working. Really disappointmented with this phone.

Mine was the screen protector just removed it has made all the difference.

I now have to turn the call volume down!

Looking for a new screen protector that will works without stopping the call volume being so low.

Bought wife new S9+ identical to mine, screen protector notched for speaker, but incoming call volume so low it's unuseable. All sound settings maxed, speaker and headphones work fine. Any suggestions other than returning the phone? I love mine, and hers is all set up.

I just figured out what was wrong! I have an identical S9+ and a cover notched for the speaker, but had this low volume problem no matter what I did on my wife's phone. I suddenly happened to think about there maybe being a thin protective screen cover on the phone as it comes from the factory, which was covering the speaker opening. I removed the high-end screen protector, and sure enough, I hadn't removed the factore screen cover. I took that off and put the screen protector back on, and the volume is fine. I wonder how many other people have done the same thing.

Like I stated in my initial posting my situation had nothing to do with a screen protector, I had 3 phones with this same problem.  The person on the other end can hear you just fine the speaker and headphones work but you cannot hear the other party.  This is a factory defect and I suggest that you get a replacement that's what I had to do.  Keeping my fingers crossed that this last phone does not have the same problem.

No it's not you and Samsung is not taking any responsibility for the matter.
