Fingerprint Scanner is not working

Last Friday my fingerprint scanner stopped working.  It now says that "An error has occurred with the fingerprint sensor.  If this message appears repeatedly restart your device."   I did that numerous times and that didn't work.   Therefore, I did a factory reset this morning because Samsung emailed me and told me that this would work to reset the scanner.  I really didn't want to do this but I did.   This has not worked either.   The face recognition works and all other sensors work.   My device is not detecting any new updates.   Please help.

@LizStelz: At this stage please dial *#0*# (star, hash, zero, star, hash) into your telephone keypad, select 'Sensor > FingerPrint Test' and tap 'Normal Scan'. If you see 'Fail' in any of the results then I recommend visiting an authorised Samsung Support Centre where an engineer can inspect your phone under warranty. To find your nearest one please check the following link, select 'Mobile Device' and enter your post code. http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/servicelocation/.
