Wednesday
Hello,
I’ve been using Samsung S series phones exclusively since around 2010.
I record all my calls with my elderly mother so I can have them as memories when she’s no longer with me. Now, every call starts with that mandatory Samsung spoken message that cannot be removed or changed, and it’s disrupting the start of our conversations. Almost every time, I have to explain to her why she’s hearing it or make a joke about it. She already knows our calls are recorded, but I’m sure you understand how this changes the dynamic of every conversation we have.
Recording calls has become a nightmare in recent years. I live in Italy, where it is 100% legal to record calls as long as they are not used in court. The only way to avoid this warning (starting with my S9) has been to register my phone in countries like India or Israel, where I can natively record calls using Bluetooth earbuds. Unfortunately, doing so means I lose many Italy-specific features like NFC payments, Samsung Health on my watch and phone, and other local services, not to mention access to the correct Samsung store. This really hurts my experience as a Samsung user and makes owning a flagship S25 Ultra feel almost pointless. At this stage, I’d rather buy a cheaper phone that lets me natively record calls over Bluetooth. I’m even considering switching to Xiaomi for this reason. Apple and a few other brands also block call recording, so they’re not even an option for me.
Why can’t Samsung do what Xiaomi does? There’s no legal issue in Italy, and only one or two EU countries (like Germany) require informing the other party about call recording. This should be an optional feature based on the country of residence, not an entire continent so please don’t take the lazy route here.
When Samsung first disabled call recording in Europe, I used third-party apps, and it worked fine. Then Google banned those apps 1–2 years later.
Now Samsung allows call recording again, but with that intrusive spoken message and worse, calls are not recorded automatically. I have to manually press the record button every time, and yes, sometimes I forget (I'm not that young also), losing precious memories with my mother because of it.
Even if I edit the audio to remove the message, the damage is already done: every conversation still starts with comments about the strange voice, because my mother often thinks someone else has joined the call. I’m sure you can understand how frustrating this is.
Is there any way to disable this spoken warning and still record calls over Bluetooth? Our conversations are long, and I cannot hold the phone on speaker for an hour just to use a third-party app.
Please, Samsung, let me take full responsibility for my recordings. Remove the spoken warning, and make call recording automatic again, just like it was for many years before.
Thank you.
