Fast Charging

Hey members.

As we know Samsung are well known for they 45w fast charging which compared to Oppo and One plus is pretty slow however I actually believe 45w is the perfect balance to them.

Well not as fast as 90w or even a faction of the speed of 120w charging 45w is in my general perspective better for overall battery health and day to day use.
With 45w and the correct charger and cable you can see your phone reaching 100% in less or exactly an hour which is extremely good.

While the need for fast charging is high and in some cases I understand that I feel samsungs current 45w charging is the perfect choice overall compared to 65w, 90w and 120w

I'd appreciate your thoughts on this and ive probably made no sense in this little rant at all. 😂

For clarification Ive seen many Techtokers and Tech YouTube talk about Samsungs 45w and how they believe it should be faster.

Whilst understand the demands for very fast charging there are trade offs in terms of Battery Health/life.  personally I think 45 watt charging is sufficient. some testing here may may be of some interest https://www.androidauthority.com/are-fast-charging-phones-bad-3532079/

I do not work for Samsung or make Samsung Products but provide independent advice and valuable contributions.

I actually think the S21 Ultra does it better and still only using SFC 1.0. It charges practically the same time (usually faster actually) than my S25 Ultra to full without 45W.

As @Joeeye mentions... the charging rates are not necessarily linear.

For example a 45w charger of a 5000mAh battery does not charge twice as slow as a 90w charger on a 5000mAh. There is more to consider.

I find 5000mAh on Superfast charging takes around 1hr to 1hr10 from low to full... depending on how low the battery is to start with.

Quoted times with 90w charging of a similar sized battery by Chinese manufacturers quote some 40 mins or so. Of course 1hr is not double that of 40m.

Some battery engineers would say that heat and speed of charging can not always be a good idea. Whilst chargers may become faster, typically high speed charging generates more heat. Long term heat excess can cause the battery cells to deplete quicker.

I personally believe that the time it takes to charge a phone is a fairly moot point.
40 mins.
1 hour.
Even ~ 2 hours turning off fast charge and using normal 25w speed doesnt concern me.

But I would like to preserve my battery longevity. So I usually opt for slower charging rates when I am not in a rush.

Caveat to above: i am not sure how newest tech... silicon carbon solid state batteries... react to these same assumptions above. Perhaps solid state will not suffer 'ageing' as much as lithium cells do.

Silicone carbon batteries are said to be better with heat then the lithium ion batteries but they also expend more then lithium ion batteries do which means the phone itself needs to be bigger to compensate for that.

Im actually really big believer thst fast charging is pointless if you know how to conserve battery. I'm a heavy user and im always on my phone. In the past 3 months having my S25 Ultra ive not once charged it during the day aside recently when ive been bouncing off my hot-spot due to my Internet being out.

I agree. Don't get me wrong getting 100% within 30 minutes sounds cool until you notice within 2 to 3 years your phone battery is degrading

Yeah, that's actually the best policy in the future. I've never bought into fast charging, at least on these phones and current battery tech. The only advantage 45W charging (at least with Samsung) that I feel is tangible is with their tablet line. My Tab S8 Ultra does benefit greatly using 45W over 25W charging for example, shaving charge time by about 30 minutes.

Ive still got fast charging on for my S25 Ultra. I have it on for the rare occasions I need to charge my phone during the day

I always keep it on, best speed available suits me. It's not that 45W charging isn't useful, it's just not so important it bothers me whether it's active or not. Compared to 25W on Samsung phones, the overall charge time will be about the same. Having said that, I don't see the downside yet to 45W charging either as I've not witnessed any extra battery degradation (at least nothing unexpected given battery age) using 45W on my Note 10+ 5G from nearly 6 years ago now.
