S25+ AMOLED Screen Issue: Firmware Bug or Design Choice?

Hi Samsung Team,

I recently purchased the S25+ and noticed a strange issue with the display behavior on the very first day of using it. While charging my phone, I realized that the screen was emitting light across the entire panel, even though the display was supposed to be black. This seemed odd, especially since AMOLED displays are known for their deep blacks and ability to turn off individual pixels.

  1. Diagnostic Test (#0#):
When I run the diagnostic test and select "Black," the screen doesn’t fully turn off as expected on an AMOLED display. Instead, it emits a faint gray light, which contradicts the deep blacks AMOLED displays are known for.

  2. Black Image Test:
However, when viewing a completely black image in the gallery, the display works as intended—no light emission, even at maximum brightness.

  3. Temporary Workaround:
I found that enabling Extra Dim in the quick panel and setting it to any intensity (I use the lowest setting for maximum brightness) resolves the issue. This workaround prevents the gray light and allows me to use the phone normally.

  4. Feedback from Other Users:
After discussing this with other S25+ users, many have reported the same issue. Some speculate that it might be intentional for burn-in detection during the diagnostic test, while others think it could be a firmware bug.

  5. Replacement Device:
Samsung support offered me a replacement device, but users have confirmed that this behavior is consistent across other S25+ units, suggesting this might not be a hardware issue.

I would appreciate it if your team could investigate this further. It seems like a potential firmware or software issue that could affect the user experience. If this behavior is intentional, it would also help to have clarification on its purpose.

Let me know if you need additional details or tests from my side. I’ve attached relevant screenshots for reference.

Thanks for your time and support!

The diagnostic test might have this behavior on purpose. It's irrelevant for everydasy use, as you can see pure black there.

What you report is a pseudo issue rather. 😉

and by the way, this board is a user help users forum. Samsung does not read here often, it's not their official support channel.

Its in every situation, also if you charge the Phone and also if you use Always On Display.

Hey 👋.

This is a user forum without any Samsung team members involved.

If you want to reach Samsung, you should contact Samsung Support, ideally for your region.

You can also file a bug report with all this information.

Also, use the following link to ask/give feedback:

Best regards.

why do you believe those features ask for a pure black background? they seem to use a shade of gray.

It's then a app setting, not a display or firmware problem.

Don't make such a big fuzz about it, I'd recommend to you.

Try it yourself. To see it the best, Put your S25 to maximum Brightness. Then try to charge it and see the whole screen turning into a gray while you try to sleep 😆

He is right. This has to be black. And since he found a workaround, which makes the phone behave normally, the most probably thing is a software/firmware problem with the model.

Okay.

But I would recommend you file a bug report from the affected phone as well. Do it from the Members app; it is quite easy.

The report will go to the developers, and if you attach the system logs, they may quickly figure out what is happening.

Also, the S25 Ultra is working fine. I have tested this on two S25 Ultras. Unfortunately, I do not (yet) have an S25+.

This is how bug reports should look like.
