Hi @Jammy97. It means your device is connected to the 5GHz band of your WiFi network. This is good for faster internet, especially for activities like streaming, gaming, or downloading large files.

That means you're connected to a wifi version 5 access point/router.

It doesn't mean 5ghz. Wifi version and wifi frequency are totally different things. Though fun fact most home 2.4ghz networks use wifi 4 while the 5ghz uses wifi 5. It's a cost saving measure as the extra speed from wifi 5 won't affect 2.4ghz much.

There's different versions of wifi. The latest is wifi 7, thats very rare but super fast. Wifi 6 is somewhat rare but being used more and more, it's designed to handle hundreds of devices at a time. Wifi 5 is the version most people will be using if they use the router their Internet provider sent them. It's modern, cheap and fits normal homes fine.

Eg, wifi 4 added 5ghz support. Wifi 6e added 6ghz support and wifi 7 added the ability to connect to multiple frequencies at the same time.

As stated by @arianwen27 the higher number the better.

Also both your WiFi and your electronic device needs to support the higher speeds.

The S24 ultra can support WiFi 7 speeds if you can get your broadband provider to upgrade your WiFi router 😊

Hi @Jammy97

That means that your phone is connecting to your router using Wi-Fi 5 standards (IEEE 802.11ac). It could be using the frequencies of 5GHz or 2.4 GHz.

The S24+ supports up to Wi-Fi 6e (IEEE 802.11ax) , which uses frequencies of 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6GHz. If you wish to take advantage of  faster speeds, then you might need to upgrade your router to provide Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6e.

I'm a university networking student, so I thought it fitting to buy and set up my own router and connect it to my ISP myself. I do a lot of wireless VR and heavy data transfers, plus it's a great learning tool, having full control over every aspect of it.
