All my previous Samsung phones have connected and this one has as well - until now. Maybe it was a recent samsung update that messed up my phone?
When my ASUS connects to external devices it makes a musical sound, which is still happening, but now it can't see my phone via USB connection. The phone usually pops up in my devices window automatically but now it doesn't. I have windows 10, i5 Asus laptop I have had for awhile and it seems to be working fine (maybe it's not?) . I've had no problems with any samsung phones for a decade, including this one.
Interesting though it does indicate on the phone, when plugged in via USB that it is charging so it is taking power form the laptop.
I have tried :
-- three different cables - it gives me the same musical sound but doesn't appear. Then after a few minutes it just disconnects for no reason (the musical sound for disconnection happens). This never happened before.
-- Moved the USB into all the ports - same musical in and out but still not visible
-- I went into developer options and into applications and changed the default USB configuration settings to "transferring files". In fact I tried every option and it still doesn't appear. I also cleared the cache and data and in USB settings, and restarted the phone, and computer.
-- I tried to connect via bluetooth but I can't figure out how to access the files on the phone. I don't know where to look and/or I can't see the phone on my laptop. It does show paired in my bluetooth settings though.
-- I updated smartswitch on both the laptop and the phone but it the wireless option asks for a QR code (which shows up nowhere) and the wired option doesn't read the phone.
Is this an issue I have to call Samsung support about? My phone is less than a year old. What number should I call? Thanks!

Hi @Elmo11
When your phone is drawing power from your laptop, do you get a notification on the drop down menu? Does it give you the option to switch the how the phone is connected to the laptop?
Have you tried the Diagnostics?
Settings -> Device care -> Diagnostics -> Phone diagnostics.
If you want to transfer data between the phone and the PC, I would not recommend Bluetooth (BT) unless it is a small file. BT is very slow.
To share files wirelessly with your Windows PC, I would recommend QuickShare which uses Wi-Fi; it is fast and effective. A great alternative, it app call LocalSend. It is free and compatible with Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. It also uses Wi-Fi.
