I have this problem too

The 100x zoom capability of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra falls short when compared to its predecessor, the S23 Ultra. The image processing on the S24 Ultra appears to be excessive, resulting in an unnatural appearance and a strange glow in the images. In contrast, the S23 Ultra produces more natural and sharper images. It is unexpected that the S24 Ultra, being a newer model, would represent a downgrade in this aspect. Samsung should address this issue to ensure that the S24 Ultra meets the expectations of its users.

I'm not sure if any user had any expectations of the 100x zoom tbh. I know it wasn't something I felt was a drop off when exchanging my S23 Ultra for my S24 Ultra. If anything I found the S24 Ultra actually had a better, more natural look with better text processing at those lengths. Not that I did any huge testing since it's a completely pointless range for me, if we're talking picture quality.

No, the 100X zoom on the S24 Ultra does not appear to be more natural. The text appears slightly blurred in comparison to the 23 Ultra, and the image has an unusual glow that makes it seem overly processed. In my opinion, the 23 Ultra's zoom is more practical and effective.

The fact that it's called 'cropped zoom' speaks volumes to me. The camera is very capable and strong, I believe the software is the problem, I bought the phone for tye zoom, and I would like it to work. And yes, I am expecting that Samsung will fix it, because I don't consider to migrate to other companies.

When I use the zoom I sense that it can do better but it needs to be worked on it. The fact that they dropped the 10x optical zoom and they've put 5x zoom is appreciated by others but to me it looks like a downgrade. Some specialists say the software is doing the image processing and it's a good thing they've put 5x optical zoom instead of 10x optical zoom, but I believe 10x optical zoom could make the image sharp. I am sure they can achieve better sharpness through software performance and I will wait for it. So far pictures even taken without zoom are still grainy and when you zoom in the detail blends in although when you look at the picture without zooming in it looks lovely, but I hope Samsung is working on a remedy and I hope they count the fact how expensive is the S24U.

The reason why the 5x was appreciated is because more users felt zoom ranges from 1 to 10x were more widely useful than beyond. Anything from 3x up to 10x zoom on the S23U looked inferior to the competition. The 5x is a huge improvement compared to what the S23 Ultra can achieve. The 10x, whilst optical, is detailed compared to the 10x on the S24 Ultra, but in good lighting, the 50MP sensor helps mitigate much of that difference. Most comparisons agree the differences are marginal in most situations. Naturally though, having a 10x optical lens does help with the 100x zoom with details over the S24 Ultra. There is no getting around this fact, even the S20 Ultra will be able to achieve slightly more details at such range over the S24 Ultra (the S21 Ultra does), but then you have to gauge the reality of what kind of quality you're getting from any of them at 100x, to which the majority will agree is extremely poor. From a practicality stand point, I don't really think it's a big deal, as the 100x space zoom was always considered a gimmick from day 1.

Thank you @Joeeye
That explains alot and your explanation makes alot of sense.
When I bought this phone I assumed the fact the the 10x optical zoom is replaced with 5x optical zoom and like I said, the max zoom is important for me, but this camera is extremely powerful anyway, and even if some people say that the one on S23U is better, which I believe it tbh, this camera is not a weak one either. In a way I trust Samsung's technical judgement. I am hoping they will fix the hiccups of this camera, and while sometimes I hear people saying this camera should've come better already from the box, when you actually use it, there isn't much to complain about tbh.

Really let down by the s24 ultra. Used enjoy just taking pictures while out but now I find myself retaking pics with different setting trying to get the best that just doesn't happen

I completely agree. Ive had an S21 Ultra, and fell in love with that camera and the 100X zoom. When I upgraded to the S23 Ultra, I was equally impressed. I pre ordered the S24 Ultra with a trade in on my 23 . I have been very disappointed. I wish I had stayed with my S23. In my opinion this has not been an upgrade, but an expensive downgrade.

Approximately how far away can the s24 ultra take a photograph on full zoom. Tricky one I know.
