S24 screen capped at 24 / 30 hz when connected to tv via usb-c to hdmi

UPDATE: I disabled high resolution mode in good lock and started DEX and it was in 1080p 60hz. This is the first time ive gotten 60hz. Sadly its not 4k or even 2k so this is not an ideal fix but is better than only getting 30 hz. Still looking for a solution...

Devices:

Samsung s24 ultra

Ultra hd 8k/60hz 4k/120hz cable

Various 4k hdmi cables 60hz

TCL 55 c805k TV with 4k 144hz, 4k 120hz, 4k 60hz hdmi ports

Issue:

When I connect my s24 ultra to my TV, using any cables, on any hdmi ports, the S24 Ultra throttles to 30 hz immediately, and the tv shows the resolution mode as 30hz.

Its not just the TV screen, the phone screen itself appears to be 30 fps (not sure if 30 hz). Swiping menus etc is low framerate.

I connected an iphone 15 using the very same cables, and it ran perfectly fine at 4k/120hz on the best cable, and 4k/60hz down to 1080p/60hz on the other assorted cables.

When i tested the s24 ultra on an older 1080p tv it ran at 1080p 60hz fine. As did the iphone.

I also tested on a 1080p monitor and the s24 ultra ran at 60hz.

It appears the s24 ultra wont run the screen above 30hz when connected to a 4k display.

Why doesnt the phone run at 60hz or 120 hz?

My devices are fully up to date

DEX is off

Force 4x MSAA is turned on in dev settings

Tested in safe mode

Tested with many apps/home screen.

Tested with all 3 resolutions on the tv.

Think of hdmi as having 2 speed levels. Level 1 can handle 1080p 60 or 4k 30. Level 2 can do 1080p 120 and 4k 60. The level is set by the monitor, cable or device.

Idea to try, download good lock, download multi star, open multi star, open I heart dex, enable high resolutions for external display.

The phone is staying in mode 1 to not overheat and use extra power. Since people can use dex for hours. For your case, you can remove this limitation. Yes dex is mentioned a lot but this applies to just display out in general

I should apologize as I have already downloaded good lock and enabled high resolutions for external displays.

I dont have another 4k display to test this on either.

I am stumped. If no other ideas, tomorrow ill contact samsung support. Im not sure if its a setting or if theres a bug with the phone itself.

I don't belive they were able to sort it but it looks like the same issue. Have a look around at others who asked the same thing

Appreciate your reply. I have spent 8 hours of sunday reading and trying to find a solution, using google, bing, chatgpt, samsung forums, reddit.

The only thing i can think of right now is the android os itself that samsung uses is flawed and only works with specific docks or devices.

I also switched dex on and connected a mouse and changed the resolution to 1080p and it was still locked to 30hz. Unfortunately I just bought this phone in september so id really hate to have to replace it for this.
