Message notifications

I have a query, I have missed several important messages due to fact that on my screen where all the apps are. When I get a message no red dot appears. It does with every other app but not my messages. I have checked my notifications, reset my phone and still nothing- any additional ideas please. My mum is on EOL care and can't afford to miss any messages at all. Thank you

What launcher are you using and what messages app? You still get the notification from it?

It's the standard samsung messages with the blue speech bubble app, I am useless but standard samsung settings, Google as my search. That's it

I do not get any notification of a message unless I go into the actual icon. Then I have a list of messages with the orange circle next to the new message. But unless I go in I can't see them and it doesn't come up on the banner even though in settings it's set to do that.

I have just checked and amended now so let's see.
