Hi everyone!

I switched from an iPhone to a Samsung a few weeks ago when I got my S24+. I'm really happy with my phone, but I'm a bit weirded out by how the Gallery app works.

When I transferred all my photos from the iPhone, the Gallery app successfully identified the faces of many people. I gave them names and connected them to the contacts. Great.

When it comes to my cat, of which I have hundreds of photos (lol, don't judge me), it only identified a few of them. It showed me like five recent pics, so I named the cat, but it didn't link any other photos to its face. I then deleted the tags, thinking the device would be forced to go over the pics again. That didn't happen.

When I search for "cat," all the pics appear. So why won't the Gallery app just create a profile of my cat so I can tag it? Is there something I can do manually?

Hi!

For as far as I know, at least, the Galaxy Gallery is not able to identify faces of people/pets. The Google Photos app is able, on the other hand.

On the Galaxy Gallery app, you can put multiple #tags at multiple pics to help you find them via the search bar, but you have to manually put a #tag for each picture. (I hope they update maybe sooner than later. That's a handy feature!)

As for the Google Photos app, it's not perfect. It usually does a very good job for human shapes, but it does need a better pet shape detector.
You can, however, manually "insert" the name of the face/pet where Google "forgot."

I have Google Photos, and I only had to help it help me on maybe 10 pics. It got every photo of my dog&cats perfectly. It did struggle with the face of my friend when he was 10 years younger.
