Hi, I recently upgraded from a Galaxy A53 5G to a Galaxy S24 Ultra . I really like the new system but i find one thing very bothersome: the notification tray on the lock screen.
There are currently 3 options for notifications on lock screen.
1- "Dot" where a dot appears top left corner.
2- "Icons" where the icons of app notifications appear in the top left corner
3- "Cards" where the notifications are displayed as cards below the time.
On my previous phone (a53 5g) i chose notifications to show as icons below the "time" widget and if i wished to view them as cards i would simply swipe down on those icons and see. In my case i keep the content hidden so i didn't use the functionality, but it was very easy to view which notifications one had at a glance, without cluttering the lock screen and more information could be viewed with a swipe down from those icons and viewed as cards.
This functionality seems to have been divided between the current options and worsened.
"icons" option instead of displaying the icons below the widget, shows them top left corner. The problem with this? It's harder to view at a glance, only a limited amount of icons can now be displayed and the swipe action to view them has to be done from the top left of an already large phone (instead of previously where i simply swiped down from the middle and they showed like the "cards" functionality currently does)
"cards" where notifications are displayed as cards has similar viewing functionality for the content/all notifications but there is no option for these cards to be HIDDEN. The cards are always displayed and clutter the lock screen.
Here is a reddit post i found with images and others with my same issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/samsunggalaxy/comments/1ifpuo5/how_to_get_the_notifications_icons_to_show_u...
I'm not sure why the decision was made to eliminate the notification functionality there previously existed because it honestly worked GREAT, below i propose 2 ways this functionality could be re implemented by utilizing existing code.
Proposition:
1) Modify "Cards" option so that an additional toggle can be selected to "hide cards" and show as icons below the clock, and on swipe display as cards. (or just add a new option to do it)
2) Utilize the "add widget" lock screen functionality: since we are able to add widgets below the clock, simply include a widget witch shows notification icons and expands on touch or swipe to display cards.
