Google Maps Freezes after starting driving mode

After the UI Update, I have this big issue. Here are the steps to recreate the problem:

(Using Swipe Gestures)

1. Open Google Maps
2. Enter any destination
3. Start - to Navigate
4. Swipe-up no longer works to close/change the app
5. Must keep swiping up several times or swipe left and right to change app
6. If I change to another app and go back to Google Maps, the Google Maps will show blank screen
7. Must close Google Maps to reuse the application

Has anyone else encountered the issue?

How can I troubleshoot this issue? 

PS : Wipe Cache Partition - DONE, issue persists

What do you mean? 

I open the Google Maps per normal, no issue if I don't start the Navigation.

Have you changed anything in developer settings or other settings to kill apps or not keep apps open etc?

Not at all, nothing has changed. However, I just noticed a message that says 

"Isn't optimized for the latest version of Android. Screen touches may be delayed or not recognized"

I turned off "Driving Mode", which start the Android Auto. That fixed the problem. But still, what's wrong with AA??

Hi, exact same thing happened to me, more than once but the only way I could use my phone was by doing a soft reset, until my last soft reset, phone started up OK and asked or pin to open, wouldn't accept my pin as the OK button was greyed out, I had to have the phone wiped and set back o factory settings, all up and running again except maps started freezing again today. So my answer to this problem is going to try a different map app and see what happens.
