Posting this to see who else finds this infuriating (at least mildly).

So, occasionally I try to unlock my phone and for some reason fingerprint unlock doesn’t work. Face unlock is available, but I avoid using both at the same time.

Why? Because when both are enabled, my phone turns into a psychological experiment.
I’ll place my finger on the sensor — only to realise the phone was expecting a swipe after detecting my face. So now I’m awkwardly holding a finger there like an *****, wondering, “Should I swipe, did face unlock work? Wait I need to try fingerprint again? Am I being gaslit by my phone?”

And yes, there is a “skip swipe to unlock” setting for face unlock, but sometimes I just want to check the time or see notifications without diving into the home screen.

The ideal fix? Let fingerprint be active by default — no fuss. Then, make face unlock activate after a swipe. That way, I get to keep both features without triggering a daily crisis of decision-making.

I personally have quite a few fingers setup from both my hands so I have a choice depending on the position of the phone and if I am eating or multitasking so to say.

Yet to try to unlock it with the cats nose.

My bad . I don't have a cat and wouldn't try it 😊🙏

Hey there

So the core issue here is that fingerprint does not function sometimes.....

Periodically you are required to enter your pin and to force this, fingerprint will appear to fail.

This is by design and is intentional as a security feature for your protection.

What y'all talking about. I'm talking about face functioning as soon as the screen turns on. This then requires a swipe to unlock disabling the fingerprint.

Why keeping the swipe to unlock. Seems redundant and it's annoying you

Yeh good question...

reason is sometimes I just wanna look at the lock screen. Otherwise my lock screen becomes useless if it opens each time automatically when I look at my phone.
