Was wondering if you guys are facing any issues on your new s22u.

I recently got a new s22u 512 Green exynos on Monday and have been testing it out. I have a couple of issues, thought I'd check if it's widespread.

1) Screen randomly goes off when scrolling websites. I have noticed this particularly when scrolling through websites in chrome. The screen will randomly go off. Double tap to wake will not work and I have to press the power button to wake the phone. Not a big issue but an annoying bug nonetheless.

2) like with the s21 ultra when it first came out. I find the camera performance on the S22U to be quite crappy frankly. The influencers made it sound like its a faster better camera but I haven't felt that yet. In indoor lighting clicking pictures of pets or babies is just impossible. You will almost never get a crisp clear picture like with the pixel or iPhone. Also even in decent indoor lighting I have noticed pictures I click are over processed. While the software does a good job of reducing grain and noise vs the s21u what you end up with is something that looks like it was painted with watercolours. Theres way too much pixel smoothening happening.

Hopefully it gets fixed with software updates but currently as it stands older Samsung phones do better in the same lighting situation probably because of better optimisation.

But generally speaking the image signal processor on exynos is pretty bad. Even last year the S21U had all the same problems except with way more grain. I think i am at a point in my life where i dont tinker with phones like I used to back in the day and i just want something that works as intended. This might be my last Samsung. I pay top $ for these phones only for the camera and its disappointing unless the lighting is perfect.

I read other posts where the screen freezes or goes black when scrolling on Google Chrome. I tried mine and I haven't encountered the issue as of yet.

To be honest I don't have any complaints regarding the camera. At the same time, I haven't tested it in all possible light conditions.

Software updates are on the way from what I've read, one coming in tomorrow to fix the screen flickering issue - hopefully!

I cannot replicate the screen issue, but the Exynos does not compare to the Snapdragon.

[Edit] My phone does have screen issues, was looking at the On news ticker ,screen went black, then came back, did this a couple of times, then the phone turned off. Let us hope this gets fixed soon!

3dMark (wildlife):

S22Ultra (SD) = 9,984 (Online)

S22Ultra (EX) = 7,072 - Not a great showing against it's continental brother!

S21Ultra (EX) = 5,864

The phone looks great, the sound is awesome, the screen as ever is gorgeous, not tried the camera yet.

Would have liked to have a system update, still stuck on 1st January like my S21. I will give it a couple of days to see if Samsung deigns to send us an update before deciding on if it gets returned.

I've missed a bunch of shots already because of the shutter delay.
Sometimes it shows the image I wanted on the initial preview/thumbnail, but then after it processes it changes to something from about 1-2 seconds after I pressed the shutter.
It's really frustrating.
Just another reason why I'm sending it back.

Yeah I know what you mean. Im thinking of doing that too. Last year I sent the S21U back and bought it again 3 months later on ebay for £800 (256gb) thats around £400 less than from Samsung. Plus by then they had ironed out a lot of the camera issues. But slow shutter seems like a Samsung thing its still present on the S21U. I think iPhone and pixel still offer a much better camera experience. But given the other software issues with the pixel I think currently if you want the best overall phone with reliable cameras then maybe an iPhone is better if you're ok switching ecosystems.

I used to be an iPhone user. I think 6S was my last iPhone, jumped to Samsung the following year before going to OnePlus last year.
Software on OnePlus is going down the drain though so no longer a good option 🤦
It's frustrating that iPhone is again the better prospect 😔 but at least iOS has come on leaps and bounds since the 6S.
That lidar for 3d scanning looks tempting but very pricey.

Btw theres a new software update samsung just released. Might be worth trying before sending it back. In my experience with the S21U they improved it significantly, especially the camera over a few months time with software updates.

I've updated already. A game I was seeing low fps on than a Snapdragon 888, was initially worse than before the software update... But I've rebooted after a while and it seems better now. Not quite at the Snapdragon 888 performance but better than before the update.
Still getting stuttering and judders everywhere though, and camera is hit&miss so far for snapping what's in view when I hit the shutter.

Yes i dont game much but yes agree with you on the camera its still hit and miss. It does well with objects not so good with human subjects for some reason edges of their face and hair still seem blurry and kind of out of focus. Will test it more over the weekend.

I've got the exynos UK version of the S22 Ultra. I got 6583 doing the Wildlife test just now, about an hour and a half after doing the software update. I didn't run it before so can't comment on pre-software update.
